What is a psychological evaluation?

A psychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment that is uniquely tailored for your immigration case. The psychological evaluation consists of three parts:

  1. Clinical Interview: Because the clinical interview is prepared specifically for your immigration case, no two interviews are the same. However, this interview is essentially an extensive conversation with a psychologist (typically lasting 3-4 hours) where they will ask you questions about different areas of your life, including the periods of your life that were (or are) particularly difficult, stressful, or traumatic.

  2. Questionnaires: Throughout the psychological evaluation, we’ll ask you to complete a number of questionnaires to help us gather additional information about how you’re doing, emotionally and psychologically.

  3. Psychological report: We use all of the the information from the clinical interview and the questionnaires to prepare a comprehensive, evidence-based psychological report.

THE PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATION PROCESS

If your immigration attorney has recommended that you obtain a psychological evaluation for your immigration case, our team in Sacramento can help.

First, we’ll begin with scheduling you for a free consultation call with one of our therapists. In this call, we’ll ask you to share some details about your immigration case - mainly to ensure that our team is the best fit for the type of psychological evaluation you’re needing for your immigration case.

Once we’ve completed the consultation, we’ll schedule you for your clinical interview (which is typically completed over two separate appointments). During this time, we’ll also begin corresponding with your attorney or legal professional about your immigration case.

After the interview, we’ll begin preparing the psychological report using all of the information gathered during our appointments and from our conversations with your immigration attorney. The report writing process typically takes 2-3 weeks, depending on the complexity of the case. Once the psychological report is complete, you’ll receive two copies of the report - one for you and one for your attorney.

Throughout this process, you’re welcome to reach out to us to ask us any questions that you might have.

At Pachamama Therapy Collective, it is our job to ensure that you are informed and supported every step of the way.
